Director's message

Message from the Director, Professor Jonathan Carapetis

Jonathan CarapetisHere at the Telethon Institute teaching and mentoring of our students is a high priority. We understand that the research breakthroughs of tomorrow will come from the students of today. Our aim is to provide a supportive and friendly environment that allows you to participate in great research, take on new challenges and new adventures, and enjoy yourself along the way.

We consider our students to be at the very heart and soul of the institute.  If you study here, you will have the opportunity to do real work on important issues, and to work with some of the greatest research minds in the country in a facility that is cutting edge.

Our students are very active in a number of programs that bring together students and other academics inside and outside the institute, and to ensure that student's interests are right at the top of the institute's agenda.  Our Student Circle is a great example of this.  I encourage you to consider us as you take your next step in a fulfilling and challenging career.

Message from the Founding Director and Patron, Professor Fiona Stanley

Fiona Stanley When you're starting out in your research career, the  choices can be overwhelming.

My advice to students is to make sure that you choose an environment where the work is interesting and challenging, where you will be effectively mentored and where you will be immersed in a culture of excellence.

Part of our mission statement at the Telethon Institute is to train the next generation of researchers.

It's a responsibility we take seriously and approach with great enthusiasm. Students are not an add-on but a highly valued and core part of our Institute.

Moira ClayMessage from the Director of Academic and Research Services & Acting Director, Professor Moira Clay

The Telethon Institute's multidisciplinary approach is a key strength of our research programs and allows the Institute to offer a wide variety of research opportunities for postgraduate students.

The Institute is closely associated with Princess Margaret Hospital for Children, the University of Western Australia through the Centre for Child Health Research and with Curtin University through the Centre for Developmental Health.

The Telethon Institute Student Circle and the Student Reference Group work closely together to provide a supportive and engaging environment for students including the annual Student Circle Symposium, Residential Development program and career development speakers.

Our researchers have an excellent record in supervising their students to completion.
