Institute Student Reference Group (SRG)

The Telethon Institute Student Reference Group (SRG) was formally established in 2004, combining several previous arrangements which aimed to support research students, their supervisors and other mentors at the Institute. "Research students" in this context comprise research higher degree students, honours students, and students undertaking a research project within an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.

The terms of reference of this group provide for support to Research staff and students and coordination of activities including: Student recruitment; liaison with enrolling Universities; policy development and the provision of advice on related matters.

The composition of the group includes the following members:

  • Director of Academic and Research Services
  • Chief Administrative Officer
  • Manager, Human Resources
  • Academic Services Manager
  • Population Sciences Student supervisor
  • Clinical/Biomedical Student supervisor
  • Student database coordinator
  • Aboriginal Research representative
  • up to 6 current postgraduate students.

The TICHR Student Circle

Student CircleThe TICHR Student Circle (previously known as IPoGs) is a group of students from the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research and the School of Paediatrics and Child Health that meet over lunch once a month.

The group meets to discuss issues concerning research students from travel funding, where to find resources, mentoring, to general support for students.

The TICHR Student Circle has grown to not only provide a sense of community and togetherness for the students but to also play a role in 'giving back' to the community.

We run fundraisers and other events to donate to relevant charities and also support the professional development of the students within the Institute and SPACH.

We are committed to developing confident and capable researchers of the future.

The current committee includes:

  • Kitty Foley
  • Ashley Schoof
  • Stephanie Fehr
  • Alex Heaton (SPACH)
